Analysis of the Structure, Branding, Graphics and Presentation Methods of an Entire News Programme

Analysis of the Structure, Branding, Graphics and Presentation Methods of an Entire News Programme

BBC News Breakfast

1.)Structure

 BBC (2020)

Live Time of Day
Introducing the current and live time of day, to inform the audiences what time they are watching this news programme, and for the news presenters/anchors, it's a sign to inform them they are going live to their audiences and the country.

BBC (2020)

Title
The official title and font of BBC News Breakfast, it's the first intro of heading into the headlines and stories to come. The psychical and live location background represents where our news presenters are based in the country.

BBC (2020)

Opening of the Newsroom
The opening shot of being inside the BBC News Breakfast newsroom, showing the set, backgrounds, and the presenters of the programme. The two individuals sitting on the red sofa will be presenting and discussing the main headlines, and the single individual nearest to the camera will be representing different subjects and stories for the programme.

BBC (2020)

Welcome & Introduction with the Anchors/Presenters
The two main presenters Louise Minchin and Dan Walker, welcoming and introducing the main headlines and what's to be expected in the programme.

BBC (2020)

Headline Number One
The main and most important story, regarding the Coronavirus about making the tiers more difficult around the country when the second lockdown concludes by December. For this being the main story will be discussed and analyzed more in-depth with contributors and by making this story the main priority of the day.

BBC (2020)

Headline Number Two
The second story, regarding the Coronavirus again, however, on a more positive side, about a new COVID - 19 vaccine has made a huge breakthrough from the experts and from a second organization.

BBC (2020)

Headline Number Three
For another Conorvirus story, the subject of business will be looking into the big and independent business of how they are coping with the second lockdown happening right now.

BBC (2020)

Headline Number Four
For something completely different and more positive, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney, have officially bought the Wrexham football club. Making the fans really appreciative and supporting the Sport's industry during these difficult times. This first side story, cleary is not as a priority compared to COVID, however, this is a chapter in the programme's structure, going to be discussing different stories and making the audience feel that it's always important and healthy to try and have some positive news for the country to experience and see when they turn on the news.

BBC (2020)

Headline Number Five
Moving onto a more Scientific subject, another breakthrough for America's astronaut space taxi service.

BBC (2020)

The Weather
Concluding the structure of the news programme, with the current day's weather forecast.

2.)Presentation
The presentation of this BBC Breakfast News broadcast is very fast-paced, showing multiple footages based on their main headlines (stories), to either present the stories dramatic, energetic, serious, and once again fast-paced. The presentation also shows lots of voice-over moments, quick, and live online interaction interviews, and the constant rush of presenting the story from captured video and audio footage to heading back into the live studio. The personality of a news broadcast from the BBC News and BBC News Breakfast can be represented as immature in my opinion, with its severe subject matters; however, it's the execution that does let the audience process and adapt from the information, stories, and of course news they present. This all is in my opinion, overall.

3.) Branding & Graphics

BBC (2020)

Background Graphic & Red Furniture
The graphic picture showing a background of a familiar-looking environment and near the location of where the BBC News studio is based. The red furniture, being the color red is showing another example and element of why the BBC News has this obsession and interest in using the color red, for their creative theme from their program.

BBC (2020)

Time on Screen
The color red and the color white, showing the current time to the viewers watching. The choice of having these two colors show a clear and eye-catching graphic to inform the viewers of the current time they are watching.

BBC (2020)

Contributor Name, Occupation, and BBC Breakfast News logo
The graphics and branding show a simple, focused, and clear explanation from their font of who the contributor is, and using their own logo below the contributor's details, shows that this is the BBC's own and authentic footage. The difference in graphics is the color orange from the Breakfast news. This could represent, that the BBC News Breakfast is showing the color orange from the time of day they broadcast their programme, which is very early in the morning, and the color orange could represent the sunrise of a brand new day.

BBC (2020)

Live Broadcast & Interview From The Studio to Westminster
The color orange is shown again on this live interview, there is a line going along from the interviewer's screen along to the interviewee's screen and it has this extra quality side for the format of interviewing between two individuals on the screen. The two words "Studio" and "Westminster", shows one evident point of where the two individuals are located, and the second evident point their graphic background. Their graphic backgrounds show a type of personality, for the interviews and if there wasn't a background, it would look and feel soleless and less interesting for the audiences to watch. As I've mentioned before, both of the backgrounds also represent both of the individual's current locations and looking similar and more colorful than in reality

BBC (2020)

Picture & Statement/Quote
These graphics show a picture on the left of the Former US First Lady Michelle Obama. On the right side, is a statement from herself discussing from her own professional perspective and opinion about how Donald Trump is responding to his loss from the 2020 Election and showing a child's attitude of not wanting to leave the White House by next January. This photo and statement show us who Michelle Obama is and what she's saying based on this political subject. These are basically, two simple objects on-screen of who is saying what.

How This News Programme Influences My Own News Programme

With my opinion on how quick and fast-paced I see the BBC News presents their show, I do think and believe they know which stories must come first and how important the stories are as a priority. The BBC News also knows how and makes sure to include a balance of negative and positive news, plus, presenting different subjects such as business, sports and even film with film critic Mark Kermode and which I am a massive fan of watching. From mentioning the importance of which stories to show in order, It supports my news show of deciding and knowing what must come first and by making our news package about the iPhone 12 a priority, because of the subject about the environment, money, and even climate change and with climate change being a trending and relevant subject that the media and society discuss about, it gives my team more reason to show our story on the iPhone 12 first in line. To be more specific on using this BBC News Breakfast programme as an example, this example shows the mixture of filming in a studio with a green screen background of presenting the stories, the example also uses appropriate examples of filming interviews with an online format and with the current situation, that is what my group wants to achieve with using the interview techniques and with professional body language. Of course, as well, using cutaway shots whether it's interior or exterior shots and sequences of presenting our news package on the iPhone 12 and our live broadcast story of Cineworld cinemas.
