Perspective - CAMERA WORKSHOP (DIRECTIONS UNIT)
- Getting back into the routine of using the equipment for our directions unit, and being given the opportunity to use different and more expensive film equipment.
What Went Well
Picking a track, a dolly and a crane, was a appropriate choice to use to film and what was based from the script we were given. From using a crane of filming a tilt shot and presenting one of the characters face recognition, and then using the track with the camera, dolly and tripod to film a crab shot, and presenting the second characters face recognition and even their body language. The actors done a good job of getting into character, feeling confident and professional being filmed with new equipment they have not been known working with before. I directed my DOP to try and capture the shots i required from my visual perspective mind, and made sure the shots would have a meaning to the plot from the script.
Even Better If
When we filmed the two shot medium from the camera on the tripod, the camera decided to pan automatically to the right when the two actors were in conversation. However when i went through the captured footage i felt the pan shot had a meaning of focusing more on the main characters dialogue moment, and instead of the actor to the left when it was panning away, and was in less focus on the individual. When we filmed on the track with the camera, it made some distracting noises that made the focus out of focus, and i think the wheels from the dolly may not have been attached correctly on the dolly. Also another possibility was that the track was not in a straight line to keep the camera, lens and dolly in a straight and focus line.
