Camera Workshop - 4K Panasonic AG DVX200 (TV NEWS PRODUCTION)
Camera Workshop - 4K Panasonic AG DVX200
Introduction
For this being my first camera workshop back in person and in the second year, I was really excited to start using new camera equipment and learn some new editions from the 4K Panasonic camera. This was an exciting experience to see if the camera would be the chosen one for my group's assignment on TV News Production. In this blog post, I shall be explaining what I had learnt from using the camera, what was successful, and what could have gone better for future opportunities when I come around to using the camera again.
What Went Well/ What I Had Learnt
To start off with what went well, I and Stan both felt very curious about using the camera from setting up in the Green Screen room. We both took turns to be in front of the camera and also as well standing behind the camera when filming the test shoots. We both thought by doing that, it would have been very fair and thoughtful to see both from our perspectives from being behind and in front of the camera. To check and also see what the quality of the framing would visually look from swapping turns with the camera. I had learnt, that the camera can hold two SD cards, which will make it easier for when we start filming our news report and we will know for a fact that if an SD card would run out of storage, we can use the backup card to continue our process in production. I had learnt also, that the Panasonic camera can capture slow motion and it may not be an inclusion element for when we shoot our story, however, it still can be another option by creating a cinematic piece in news storytelling.
Even Better If/ What Could Have Gone Better
For myself and Stan, being the first two individuals having the first chance to use the camera, the experience could have gone better if we had more time and we only had half an hour of using the Panasonic Camera. Both of us did do the benefit of setting up the camera and leaving the others in their groups to just use the equipment. My overall negative thoughts were to have more time using the camera, before giving the other groups turn. Unfortunately from another negative moment, we didn't have time to put the tablet on the reflected glass and which the tablet contained our script from our news company. As in the video above, I and Stan were coming up with random dialogue and including the fun side of filming and Fergus himself was comfortable and satisfied enough to go with that option, instead of using the script, and this was another reason why we didn't have much time before giving the next group the opportunity to use and film the 4K Panasonic.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this was a refreshing experience to have a camera workshop in person and my appreciation of doing this exercise task at the studios made me feel more satisfied, confident and making more progress for the groups project. I am very much looking forward to using the 4K Panasonic camera again and I shall discuss with my group of deciding if we shall use the Panasonic, or use the Sony EX camera from the first year. The next objective now is revisiting the green screen room tomorrow, with my group, doing more testing shoots, and start reading from the script for rehearsals, and also getting some thoughts about our framing and tone of the group's TV news company.
